The ancient Indian scriptures link Rudraksh to Lord Shiva. According to a mythological story, once Lord Shiva had to fight a demon named Tripura of Himalayas. In this long stretched fight Lord Shiva had to constantly open his eyes in search of eluding demon; due to tiredness tears rolled down from Lord Shiva’s eyes. The trees of Rudraksha are believed to be originated at places where the tears of Lord Shiva fell on earth. Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe, directed that these trees would be known as Rudraksha and their fruits would have the power to free the mankind from sins and sorrows, and to bestow both Bhukti (enjoyment) and Mukti (salvation).

According to Shivpurana, the one who wears the rosary of Rudraksha beads around his/her wrist, arm, neck or head can roam in the world fearlessly as does the Rudra (Lord Shiva) and he/she cannot be killed by a living being. Wearing it makes the person respected and honoured by all.

Rudraksha is a natural tranquilizer. In Ayurveda, Rudraksha is believed to bestow its wearer mental and physical prowess to achieve both physical success and spiritual enlightenment. It is considered to be a medicine for blood pressure, mental disorders, neurological disorders, asthma, diabetes, and gynecological disorders; with anti-aging properties, it is assumed to have profoundly good effect on heart and circulatory system. And it is believed that wearing Rudraksha beads relieves strain, insomnia, anxiety, lack of concentration, depression, palpitation, hypertension, rheumatism, and infertility.
